Circuit in polo estancias, Argentine, Buenos Aires & Córdoba – 1

Activities: a driver will be waiting for you at Ezeiza international airport to drive you to San Antonio de Areco in the Province of Buenos Aires, where the Estancia La Sofia is located. After a few miles, you will find yourself surrounded by Argentine Pampas. These vast extensions of land, favorable for livestock breeding, make Argentina the “horsemen” country that it is. The soul of the gaucho is omnipresent in this refined estancia. After a warm welcome and a briefing in the salon, a member of the staff will take you on a tour of the park, the polo field and the stables.

Activities: Estancia La Sofia is an exceptional place to be trained in the art of polo: it has a team of specialists to guide you, to introduce you to the game or to improve your existing technique. The estancia’s park has two magnificent polo fields on which th Argentine professional Marcos Martín Guiraldes will train you. First, you’ll have a test with the polo instructor to establish your level, which will enable you to take better advantage of your stay at the estancia. You will attend a daily theoretical class in which the rules of the sport, the position of the players, the possible strategies, etc., will be explained. Then you will continue to work on your hitting technique with your professor, who will help you correct your riding posture and calibrate your shots.

Activities: the estancia has 6 rooms of a distinct and refined style, with personalized attention and exclusivity guaranteed! The environment is cozy so as to make you feel at home. You will attend polo classes in the morning and in the afternoon. Outside the hours of the course, you will be able to continue with your training, but keep in mind that this sport is a discipline of great intensity and La Sofia offers other activities to balance your day: enjoy a delicious asado, an excellent example of Argentine cuisine, visit a leather and gaucho articles workshop etc. You’ll also be able to enjoy the swimming pool, the tennis court, or simply go for a sulky ride.

Activities: you still have half a day more to enjoy this beautiful estancia. After a nice rest and a fine lunch, you will be driven to the airport for your flight to Cordoba. You will leave behind the great plains of the Pampas to head for the rugged Cordoba Mountains. The estancia’s personnel will be waiting for you at Cordoba Airport. El Colibri is not an ordinary place: it is an elegant family lodge specializing in polo, a beautiful property that recreates the colonial style of old Argentine residences with an Andalusian touch, and all the infrastructure of a 5 star hotel. Its owners, Frenchmen who settled in Argentina several years ago, fell in love with polo and formed their own team which now competes with the best of the Argentine Polo Association. The estancia receives professional players as well as amateurs.

Activities: on this first day, you’ll be taken on a tour of the estancia’s surroundings. A professional polo player will accompany you to orientate you and then help you improve your gaming technique. Your new professor will evaluate your level after your “first round” in El Rocio. El Colibri also has an immense pool, as well as a Spa equipped with a Sauna, Hamman and Jacuzzi so you can relax between classes. You will be offered activities such as wine tasting, asado preparation, mountain biking or horseback riding. As you can see, polo is not the only attraction at the estancia!

Activities: a day of relaxation. You will be offered a number of options. If you wish to continue with your equestrian activities, you will be able to enjoy a full day cavalcade. You will experience a pleasant change, from the energetic and refined polo horse to the calm and robust Argentine thoroughbred horse: the criollo. The idea is to visit the magnificent surrounding areas on horseback and enjoy a picnic along the way. You will also have the option of playing golf on the 18-hole course of Ascochinga, 20 km (12.4 miles) from El Colibri (be sure to check pricing for this option).
Lunch: during the circuit, a picnic prepared at the estancia.

Activities: you will resume your training with your coach. Practice shots or “Sticks & Balls”. During the afternoon, you’ll enjoy a first “chucker”, a match in which 2 teams of 4 players compete for an average time of 7 minutes. During this stay dedicated to polo, you will be invited to play not only in El Colibri, which has one of the best fields in Argentina and excellent infrastructure, but is also one of the most renowned clubs of the region.

Activities: you can dedicate this day to practicing everything you have learned during this intense trip. Time for a practice chucker! In the afternoon you’ll leave the estancia to take a 75 minute flight to Buenos Aires. Dinner is not included, so you may enjoy Buenos Aires by night.

Activities: before leaving for the airport, we will discover Buenos Aires and/or, if you prefer, go shopping. The leather-goods and gaucho articles shops offer typical and original products. The city tour runs through 9 de Julio, the widest avenue in the world with its 65 meter (213 feet) obelisk and Avenida de Mayo, which is well known for its buildings of Galician architecture influence. At Plaza de Mayo you will discover the Casa Rosada, the president’s HQ. We will then visit the La Boca neighborhood, with its colorful houses made with recovered material from ships, inspiration for painters and poets. We’ll then discover San Telmo, home of antiques shops and traditional Tango bars. Recoleta is a traditional residential neighborhood, where walking is a true pleasure due to its numerous parks and squares. To end the tour, we’ll visit Puerto Madero, the old city port which has recently been completely refurbished.
